[16th century book]. HÉRY (Thierry de). The curative method of the venereal disease, commonly called grosse vairolle, and of the diversity of its symptoms. In Paris, by Matthieu David and at the Palais, in the shop of Arnoul L'Angelier, 1552. In-8, [8] f., 272 p., [16] f., old soft ivory vellum, smooth spine, renewed laces (spine streaked probably formerly replaced; light angular wetness on the very first f., then in some margins; some russeting, negligible worm work in margin of some f., others skilfully restored on some ff.) Very rare first edition of the first French manual on the treatment of venereal diseases. The title page is decorated with a beautiful woodcut frame with the figure of Diane de Poitiers. (Waller, 4392; Wellcome I, 3144; Garrison & Morton, 2368; USTC 40932). A large-margined copy (h = 166 mm). Manicules in the margin on p.32. Provenance: Guilhon (old manuscript bookplate repeated on title and v° of last limine); other 16th c. ms. bookplate crossed out at head of dedication.
