LITERATURE
GYP (pseud. of Sibylle-Gabrielle-Marie-Antoinette de Riquetti de Mirabeau). Autograph manuscript signed, with autograph repentirs and corrections, [ca. 1892]. In-folio (approx. 37 x 23 cm), violet ink on recto only, folioed from 2 to 51 (except 5, plus 6 bis). Bundle folded in 2, first leaf a little soiled and slightly creased (missing leaves 1 and 5; modern notation in pen on verso of last leaf).
A humorous little drama set in the Château des Bouleaux, between Nevers and Moulins, featuring an assembly gathered for the signing of a marriage contract. Gyp, as usual, provides an amiable caricature of good society, of which she herself was a part. Belles manières, sous-entendus, saillies cruelles and marivaudage are the ingredients of this charming playlet, which appeared under the title "Monsieur le Duc" in the magazine La Vie parisienne on July 9, 1892.
