European sturgeon (Acipenser sturio) (I/A-CE) pre-convention: Beautiful old naturalized specimen on wooden base with metal hoops for support; naturalized before 1900. This specimen was probably collected in the Gironde estuary at the time. Today, this species is critically endangered in its French range, surviving only in the Garonne, Dordogne and Gironde basins. Length: approx. 220 cm This species is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention (CITES), in Appendix A of European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 and predates the application of the French Environment Code. In accordance with the law, and more specifically with EC Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, a certificate of appraisal will be given to the future purchaser allowing the commercial use of this specimen in the EU. However, if the specimen is to be exported from the EU, a CITES re-export certificate will be required. Specimen sold as is Expert : COMBREXELLE Michaël Former collection of Mr. Gardonne LEBRAULT (1881-1956), a delicatessen chef in Saint-Maixent-l'Ecole and taxidermist in his spare time, a discipline he practiced from 1910 to 1950. In 1910, he had the opportunity to acquire an important collection of avian, mammalian and ichthyological specimens naturalized between 1845 and 1900, which are notably presented in this sale. He enriched his collection with other specimens naturalized between 1900 and 1953. On his death, his entire collection of mammals, birds, fish and insects was kept by his family and displayed in glass cases for conservation purposes.
