In-12, [2] f., 400 p., contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed, gilt title (spine rubbed, headbands and corners worn, scattered russets, a few stains). New edition of these memoirs by the Duc d'Angoulême, which occupy the beginning of the work up to page 135; the remainder contains other contemporary memoirs, mainly concerning the Peace of Vervins. Provenance: Jacques-Auguste II de Thou (1609-1677), baron de Meslay. In 1642, he inherited all the property of his father J.-A. de Thou I (1553-1617), historian, diplomat and eminent bibliophile, including a remarkable library. Riddled with debts, he had to part with this collection in 1669. His handwritten ex-libris appears in the title and at the end of the text; the numerous underlining and reading marks in the work are most probably in his hand, and can be seen in the first part, and on a few leaves at the end; a few rare corrections concern the spelling of names.
