Louis XVI period.
H: 89 cm, W: 129 cm, D: 55 cm
Diamond marquetry in the Louis XVI period was used by several cabinetmakers, notably Weisweiler, Riesener and Benneman, with a number of variations, notably in scale, depending on the size of the piece, as well as in sophistication, sometimes with the addition of fillets or black pastilles. Weisweiler also made extensive use of the principle of rounded uprights (with or without fluting) and, above all, the abundance of framing mouldings underlining the main lines of the furniture (mainly the accentuation of the horizontal lines under the first row of drawers and, more specifically, the lower surround and the upper part of the tapered leg). In this respect, it may be more in keeping with the style of marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre.
