JACOB (Max) (1876-1944) Set of 6 L.A.S. to a young poet "Roland", St Benoit sur Loire, dated January 5 to April 16, 1937. 12 pp. in-4 . Very interesting poetic correspondence, evoking in turn Le Tasse, Hugo, Chateaubriand, Gérard de Nerval, Gide, Rimbaud and others. Max Jacob describes lyricism, quotes poems and analyzes some of them. On February 1, he wrote: "Purity has been fashionable for 30 years. Everyone understands it in their own way. Gide returns to the classic [...]"; on March 27, he talks about "evolutions" and "revolutions in the life of a poet. Take examples: the uncertainties of Le Tasse, Hugo's volt-faces [...] There was comedy in M. M. Corneille and Racine [...]".
