PORTAIL (Antoine), surgeon, (circa 1530-1608). Signed piece on parchment, 13.5 x 23 cm, dated 1604. (Binder stain in margin, original hole in center with no missing text, a crease in corner). Signed receipt, by which the surgeon recognizes to have received from monsieur de Girard, treasurer general of the Household of the king, the sum of 250 livres for his wages of first surgeon of the king during the 2nd quarter of 1604. The document is transcribed on the v° in another hand. Antoine Portail, native of Béarn, was ordinary surgeon of Charles IX and Henri III, then first surgeon of Henri IV. One joined: - LA NOUE (Jérôme de), surgeon, (about 1550-1632). Piece signed on parchment, 10 x 23 cm, dated 1625. (Prick of binding, piece gnawed on the right, qq. letters missing). Signed receipt for a sum of one hundred sols for an annuity paid by the city of Paris. J. de La Noue was the surgeon of Catherine de Médicis. Attached: - HÉROARD (Jean), physician, (1550 or 1550-1628). Signed piece, on paper, 1 page in-folio, with two other signatories, including Morel. Jean Héroard was a physician of Charles IX, of Henri III, first physician of the Dauphin, then of Louis XIII. He died in Aytré during the siege of La Rochelle. 3 pieces
