[ANGOULÊME (Charles de Valois d'). Memoirs very particular t - Lot 154
[ANGOULÊME (Charles de Valois d'). Memoirs very particular to serve to the history of Henri III, king of France and Poland, & of Henri IV, king of France & Navarre. In Paris, by D. Thierry, 1667. In-12, [2] f., 400 p., contemporary brown calf, spine gilt, gilt title (rubbed spine, worn hairs and corners, scattered russets, a few stains). New edition of these memoirs of the duke of Angouleme which occupy the beginning of the work until page 135; the rest contains other contemporary memoirs, touching essentially on the peace of Vervins. Provenance: Jacques-Auguste II de Thou (1609-1677), baron de Meslay. In 1642, he inherited all the property of his father J.-A. de Thou I (1553-1617), historian, diplomat and eminent bibliophile, including a remarkable library. Riddled with debts, he had to part with this collection in 1669. His handwritten bookplate appears in the title and at the end of the text; the numerous underlining and reading marks in the work are most probably in his hand, they can be seen on the first part, and a few leaves at the end; some rare corrections concern the spelling of names.
