In-folio, 1109 p., [21] f. (errata, index), [sign. a-z8 A-Z8 Aa-Zz8 Aaa-Ccc8], 17th c. ivory vellum, double spine, author, title and date in manuscript, boards bordered by a double fillet with small fleurons at the corners and a large central medallion, all in cold, edges speckled (cover a little greyed, upper spine split, laces missing; title slightly faded with small paper stain in margin; small hole in margin p.761, small tear restored p.865, marginal russeting without gravity). First edition given by Robert Estienne, in the King's Greek type. Revised and enlarged by the author, this is the fifth edition of this humanist monument dedicated to the Greek language by Guillaume Budé and which first appeared in 1529. A copy with large margins. Provenance: Guy Stresser-Péan, anthropologist, 1913-2009; and previously Vayson library (ms. note on a flyleaf).
