[Dieppe]. GENERAL COLLECTION OF EDITS, declarations, letters - Lot 217
[Dieppe]. GENERAL COLLECTION OF EDITS, declarations, letters-patents & arrests of the Council of State, given in favour of the inhabitants of the town of Dieppe, concerning the privileges, franchises and exemptions of the town. In Dieppe, at Pierre Pillon's, 1700. In-4, multiple pagination, contemporary brown calf, spine gilt, title gilt, edges blotched, restorations (plate epid., one cap rubbed). Important collection of documents relating to the town of Dieppe from the Middle Ages to the early 18th century. Although the volume bears the date of 1700, the last piece it contains was printed in Dieppe in 1717. This collection is of particular interest because the town's archives were partly destroyed by a bombardment in 1694, and it contains pieces that have disappeared. The last 5 pages contain a general table. The whole is illustrated with a large number of woodcut initials, headbands and tailpieces. (Brother II, 443). Provenance: Des Courtils, château de Merlemont, Oise, 19th c. (engraved armorial bookplate).
