(the last bl.), contemporary soft vellum, smooth spine decorated with a double gilt fillet with corner fleurons, title in ink, boards decorated in the same way, gilt edges (missing 2 introductory f. including the one with the engraved portrait; one bl. endpaper mq., another torn, feathering on the endpapers). First edition of this work composed in 1387 at the request of the Norman lord Jean d'Estouteville, "Captain of Vernon sur Seine", established by Claude Menard (1574-1652), historian, king's adviser and lieutenant of the Provost of Angers. This is a fine copy with an elegant gilt vellum binding. The work contains "precious details on the capture of several towns and castles in Normandy in the 14th century" (Frère, II, 303-304). Provenance: Claude Esberard (old signature on the title).
