Enriched with commentaries with a very ample index of the subjects In Rouen, from the Printing Office of Raphaël Du Petit Val, 1599. In-4, [6]-282-[8] f., modern half tan basane, spine with 5 nerves, gilt title and date (title rebacked and doubled at the spine, first half of the vol. worn in the foot margins, rebacked with adhesive in the inner margins which are a bit tight, margin replaced f.193). First edition including commentary by J. Le Batelier d'Aviron. Title illustrated with a vignette with the arms of Normandy, initials and headbands, all woodcut. Some underlining without gravity, rare old annotations. [DU PLESSIS (Toussaint)]. Description géographique et historique de la Haute Normandie A Paris, chez Nyon père, Didot, Giffart, 1704. Two volumes in-4, contemporary havana basane, spine with 5 ornamented nerves, title and tomes in garnet maroon, red edges (binding very worn but solid, one guard missing; one fx-title repaired, russeting and soiling, stains in the margin of the limin. f. of t.1, lack of paper in the margin t.2 p.515). First edition of this work of which the first volume concerns the Pays de Caux, the second, the Vexin; the second part of each volume contains a geographical dictionary of the region concerned. Without the two maps which, according to Frère, are often missing; but contains the engraved hors-texte plan of the cathedral of Rouen opposite p.735 of t.2. (Frère I, 404-405). Provenance: Robert Jacques Allaire (18th c. manuscript bookplate on title); De Touleville (early manuscript mention of purchase at a sale). Total of 3 volumes.
