ADANSON (Michel). Families of plants. In Paris, chez Vincent - Lot 38
ADANSON (Michel). Families of plants. In Paris, chez Vincent, 1763. 2 volumes in-8, [2] f., CCCXXV-189 p. + [1] f., 24 p., [2] f., 640 p., contemporary spotted tan calf, spine with 5 nerves, fawn morocco title-piece, red edges (dull corners, snag on one spine, partial cracks in the jaws, slight browning in the margin). First edition of this important botanical treatise in which the author proposes a new classification of plants. It is illustrated with an engraved folding plate. It is also curious from the point of view of the spelling used, arguing for a simplification, as evidenced by the subtitle of the first volume: "Contenant une préface istorike sur l'état ancien & actuel de la Botanike, & une téorie de cette science". Old label of the bookseller Barré in Rouen. (Pritzel, 21).
