GIRARDIN (Stanislas de). Promenade ou Itinéraire des jardins d'Ermenonville, to which twenty-five of their principal views, drawn and engraved by Mérigot fils, have been attached. Paris, 1788. In-8, 68 p., [2] f., pl., contemporary granite fawn calf, smooth spine, garnet coloured title-piece, gilt fleurons and roulettes, cold fillet bordering the boards, gilt fillet at the edges, spotted tr. (stains on the boards, 2 dull corners, superficial rubbing; browning in the margins of the first 3 f., light spotting on the first 3 plates and the 5th, in the margins of the following ones; missing corner in the margins of 3 f.)
First edition of this famous treatise on English gardens, and first printing of the 25 plates engraved in black manner by Jean-Gabriel Mérigot, after the drawings of the de Girardin family. It includes at the end 2 pages of engraved music, with the text of the "Chanson du berger de la Grolle verte", composed by the Marquis de Girardin. (Cohen, 439; De Ganay 124).
