DAUMIER. FABRE (François). Illustrated medical nemesis. Collection of satires. Paris, Bureau de la Némésis médicale, 1840. Two volumes in-8, XXXII-272 p., [4] f. (the last one blank) + 360 p., contemporary half-bronze, smooth and ornate spine (corners and edges slightly rubbed, small crack at the head of a spine vol. 1, scattered browning).
First illustrated edition of these 25 satires on medicine, by the Marseilles physician François Fabre (1797-1854). It is adorned with 30 woodcut vignettes by Daumier by the best artists of the time, in first printing. (Vicaire III, 641).
Provenance: Alcide Ludovic Ternant, director of the Eastern Telegraph Company in Marseille, president of the Scientific and Industrial Society of Marseille (engraved bookplate 19th c.).
