PARADIN Emblems]. PARADIN (Claude). Heroic mottoes and emblems of Mr. Claude Paradin. Reveived and augmented by means. In Paris, by Jean Millot, [1614]. In-8, [2] f., 340 p., [3] f. (the last one blank), figs, contemporary ivory vellum, smooth spine, title in ink (laces missing, slight tear in spine, binding unbound, first 2 quires slightly faded with notes crossed out in margin, one corner missing in margin p.31). New enlarged edition of this famous collection of emblems which first appeared with Jean de Tournes in 1551 and whose success lasted for nearly a century. It is preceded by a fully engraved title page with allegories and contains numerous copper-engraved emblematic figures halfway down the page. (Landwehr, Romanic, 571).
