Between Asia and Europe, circa 1770-1780 Folded fan, sheet of skin painted in gouache, mounted in the English style. Ivory frame pierced, carved, engraved and painted with gouache. H.t. 29 cm H.f. 14.3 cm (W.E. acc. to plume) Three large polymorphic cartels mixing Chinese and European decorations. On the left, the first one presents a Chinese scene in the upper register and two shepherds sitting in the countryside in the lower register. In the centre, three compositions with Chinese decoration frame a couple in the countryside: on the left, a man and a child in a garden stand next to a lake scene in a rose monochrome, while on the right, a woman is having tea in the garden with a child. The cartel on the right combines an animated scene of a shepherdess, surmounted by a fishing scene. On the reverse, cherry branches and a rock.
