DE BRUYN (Cornelis). Journey to the Levant, i.e. to the main places of Asia Minor, to the islands of Chio, Rhodes, Cyprus of Egypt, Syria & Holy Land In Paris, at J.-B.-C. Bauche and in Rouen, with C. Ferrand & R. Machuel, 1725. Volumes 2 and 3. Two (out of 5) volumes in-4, period speckled havana calf, spine with 5 ribs, title and tomaison piece in morocco garnet and havana, decorated boxes, double gilt fillet on the cuts, red slices (hooks on one cut, stain in the margin p.99 t.IV). Set of 2 isolated volumes of this work, illustrated with numerous plates and several maps (not collated), including a folding map of the Russian empire, and another of the road from Amsterdam to Moscow and from Ispahan to Gamron... First collective edition in French established, corrected and enlarged by Abbé Banier. The very rich illustration shows views of cities and landscapes, including archaeological sites and remains, numerous characters in costume, plants and animals, some of which are unknown to the author.
