BAUMANN (Charles), BAUMANN (Napoleon). Collection of camellias bred in Bollwiller, dedicated to Mr. Professor A. P. de Candolle. Bollwiller, s.n. the authors ?] ; [Paris], Impr. de Mme Huzard [text] ; and Mulhouse, Engelmann & Cie [plates], 1829-1835. In-folio, 16 p., [3-3] f., 49 plates, in sheets under 4 half-covers of delivery (light browning of the text, and very light on plates 26, 27, 28 and 34; only the upper covers of the books have been preserved). Very rare and splendid monograph on camellias grown in Bollwiller, Upper Rhine. It is illustrated with 49 lithographed colour plates, partly raised and gummed, printed on strong wove paper, according to drawings by Charles Baumann, by Engelmann for the first three issues, and by Bruckert in Guebwiller for the last one. The text provides an introduction to camellia cultivation and the propagation processes which enabled the Baumann brothers to produce new varieties; then, 49 notices describing as many varieties, classified according to their generic characteristics.
