Monoxyl statue in patinated oak wood, carved in an almost ro - Lot 374
Monoxyl statue in patinated oak wood, carved in an almost round-humped shape, with a non-recessed reverse. It represents a venerable prelate in a frontal position, seated on a curule-type seat, making the gesture of blessing; he wears the insignia of his episcopal dignity: mitre gemmed with baleen falling on his shoulders, manipulates, pastoral stick with leafy scrolls, long cope maintained by a cordiform iron enamel. A work of fine proportions, executed in a workshop in Maasland (Mosan country), presenting the canons of Gothic art from the late 15th or early 16th century. T.: 92.5 cm; Base height: 5.5 cm Probably from a votive chapel Good state of conservation; rare traces of inactive woodborers; few restorations in use, including a slight vertical rework at the back of the face; mink on the right side in a seat bar; base and butt from a later period Old collection of Mgr FUZET
